Martyrdom was a major part of the life of the early church. It is also a major part of the church throughout history, including today. Here begins the story of the first martyr Stephen. I think that these Martyrs that we read of in the scriptures and in history and of today are indications of what it really means to follow Christ. To be a servant means to be willing to lay down our life for him. We should pray not that this should happen to us, but that we would be so committed to Lord Christ that we would be willing to die, knowing that death is no longer the victor. I read both the book you're showing & the sequel. It's amazing to think of how cushy our lives in America are compared to other parts of the world, where Christians are hunted down like animals.
