January 2 Bible Reading

Good morning, Bible Thumpers!

Below are the 4 passages of the Bible for today. I'll definitely delve into them on my lunch break. I can't wait until we get to 1st Samuel! :)

Genesis 3:1-4:26
Matthew 2:13-3:6
Psalm 2:1-12
Proverbs 1:7-9

  1. Genesis 3:
Boy! Misery loves company! God kicked Lucifer out of Heavan & Lucifer wants to bring down as many of us as he can convince. Nothing's changed since Adam & Eve. We fall for the temptation of sin today just like they did.

  2. Genesis 4:15:
I've often heard of the mark of Cain as though it's a mark of death or disobedience. But I guess it's really a mark of grace. God put it on Cain as a sign to say, "anyone who hurts this boy has to answer to Me".

  3. Matthew 2:
Can you imagine the government forcing the killing of all boys a certain age or younger to be killed? That must have been horrible!

I always think it's ironic that Jesus had to go to Egypt. Threat of Herod forced the infant Jesus to be moved to the country that, thousands of years prior to Jesus' birth, is the country that God slew the firstborn of each family in. This was to get the people of Israel free from Egypt. The people of Israel, for the most part, thousands of years later rejected the belief that Jesus was their Messiah.

  5. Psalm 2:
We often forget that Jesus has the authority to be our Judge (John 5:27). Jesus is loving & forgiving, yes. But we can't say that there isn't a Hell.

  6. Proverbs 1:7:
I used this as the memory verse for Children's Church the first month I ran it. We think that we get smart by earthly means, like education. Hey, I hope all of my kids go to college. But if we ignore the beginning of wisdom, which is to reverently worship & fear the Lord, then all of the other education we can gain doesn't really matter. It's like adding a nice-looking roof onto a wobbly foundation.

  7. Proverbs 1:8

As a parent I'd like to say AMEN! :)
