January 3rd -- Please pray for Pop

Howdy

Would you please pray for my step-father. You young men probably remember me asking you to pray for him to be rid of cancer. Mama & I took him to the hospital last night. He's not in a life-threatening situation, but it's not good either.

Genesis 5:1-7:24
Matthew 3:7-4:11
Psalm 3:1-8
Proverbs 1:10-19

After breakfast I'm going to get to eat some of the Word. Put on your swim trunks & take a deep breath -- today we read about a lot of folks treadin' water. :)

It's amazing to think about how many people would be on the Earth today if God hadn't trimmed down the population with Noah!

God's going to trim it down again too. We've got to be on board.

I wish I could have been around to hear John the Baptist. He's not much of a diplomat -- he just says it like it is. :)

The word "baptize" Matthew 3 means to envelope or immerse. I don't mean that we should change the baptism services to dunking sessions. :) But I think what John the Baptist was saying is, "Pal, check it out. Just like I envelope with folks with water, Jesus is going to envelope folks with the Holy Spirit. And if that don't work, He's going to envelope them with fire." There's nothing mediocre about Jesus!

  3. Matthew 4:
Jesus is the top dog. He's the Son of God. He can whip Satan with a flick of the wrist. Yet, he decided to fight Satan using a tool that's readily available to those of us who live in the free world: holy scriptures. I think we don't truly understand the power of the word of God.

  4. absolutely. there's nothing 'halfway' about our faith. we should drown in God's goodness, be immersed in his Spirit.

  5. Psalm 3:
This psalm has a lot of "Selah"'s, which means to pause & think about it for a little bit. And it was written by David, who is probably the most beloved leader in Isreal's history. Even when he was up against impossible odds, he knew that often the best thing to do is to stop for a minute and think about the truths that he already knew: that the situation is bad (verse 2), that God hears our prayers (verse 4), and that God delivers us & blesses us (verse 8).

We all have peers who try to tempt us into going down the world's path. That temptation is often clouded with visions of grandeur or power. Yet, those temptations are big, fat lies. The Lord God Almighty is always the One we need to be allies with. He’s the One who wins in the end. When we choose to be against Him or His ways, we choose to be on the losing side.
